Our History

Our expertise in making leather goes back to Cromwell’s founding in 1899 in Germany. By 1946, when Curtis Cromwell established the headquarters in New York, the company had become recognized internationally as tanners of fine leathers.

In the second half of the twentieth century, Cromwell focused its growth on providing Bonded Leather for bookbinding and leather goods. Cromwell applied its deep Genuine Leather knowledge and experience to develop unique Bonded Leather with the look, feel and smell of its fine Genuine Leathers.

During this time, Cromwell expanded globally. Manufacturing became centered in the Valencia region of Spain with its long history of making outstanding leathers. Offices and warehousing were established in the United States, Asia and Europe to best serve international customers.

In the twentieth century Cromwell has focused on reliability, sustainability and innovation. With our outstanding global team, customers know they can depend on Cromwell.
